About the Coin
The 1988 Full Sovereign was struck by The Royal Mint during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and features Benedetto Pistrucciโs iconic St George and the Dragon design on the reverse, one of the most recognisable designs in British coinage.
The obverse features Raphael Makloufโs portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was introduced to British coinage in 1985 and remained on the Sovereign until 1997.
Struck in 22 carat gold to a Proof finish, this example has been professionally graded by NGC as PF69 Ultra Cameo, just one point below the highest possible Proof grade. The Ultra Cameo designation recognises the strong contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and frosted design details.
With its exceptional grade, Proof finish and classic Pistrucci design, this 1988 Sovereign is a superb example of modern British gold coinage and an excellent addition to a high-grade Sovereign collection.
