The 2017 Double Sovereign Gold Proof Coin was issued by The Royal Mint to mark the 200th anniversary of the modern Sovereign and Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St George and the Dragon design. Struck from 22 carat (916.7 fine) gold, this special anniversary issue recreates key elements of Pistrucci’s original 1817 design.

The reverse features St George and the Dragon surrounded by the original-style garter border and inscription, distinguishing the 2017 anniversary Sovereign from standard issues. This example has been graded PF65 Ultra Cameo by NGC, with strong contrast between the frosted design and mirrored fields.
